The City Church St Jakob is an open church in the middle of Zurich, where religious, spiritual, cultural, sportive and other social events take place. By converting to LED lights, the annual energy consumption of the interior lighting was reduced by more than 80%. The energetic optimization of the previous lighting offered the opportunity to optimize the design of the already atmospheric lighting of the church. The glossy wooden surfaces are illuminated by a surface light with subtle dynamics. We achieve this modulation with the precise lighting of luminaires that are equipped with different optics despite their uniform external shape. The window arches are intended to frame the room as a whole and are filled with light. Depending on the architectural conditions, the light sequences are either left visible or blurred. New, beautifully shaped luminaires bring the large side aisle to life and open the room invitingly into the width.
